چکیده
Quantum fluid (or hydrodynamic) models provide an attractive alternative for the modeling and simulation of electron dynamics in nano-scale objects. Compared to more standard approaches, such as density functional theory or phase-space methods based on Wigner functions, require solution a small number equations ordinary space, implying lesser computational cost. They are, therefore, well suited study systems composed very large particles, metallic nano-objects. can be generalized include spin degrees freedom, semirelativistic effects spin-orbit coupling. Here, we review basic properties, advantages limitations quantum models, some examples their applications.

Transport in ITER-like plasmas in neoclassical, fluid and gyrokinetic descriptions
Abstract. Turbulent and neoclassical transport in a reference hybrid-mode ITER plasmas is studied using a hierarchy of modeling tools. Transport from ITG/TEM instability is studied with nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations and compared with results from quasilinear fluid and gyro-Landau fluid models. Simulations include full kinetic ion and electron dynamics, although a pure-D mixture is assumed f...
متن کاملHybrid Particle/Fluid Modeling of Plasmas
Particle in cell (PIC) methods enjoy great success in modeling devices that include moderately dense plasmas. However, as the plasma density becomes high in a large volume, the number of particles to track becomes computationally prohibitive. Reducing the number of particles by creating larger “macro particles” introduces significant numerical error. Alternatively, highdensity plasmas in large ...
متن کاملKinetic theory for quantum plasmas
Quantum plasmas have been studied theoretically for more than four decades. Important early applications include the electron gas in metals and the electron-hole plasma in semiconductors and dimensionally reduced nanostructures. Experiments with lasers and ion beams are now making dense quantum plasmas of electrons and (classical) ions accessible in the laboratory giving rise to increased theor...
متن کاملHow to model quantum plasmas
Traditional plasma physics has mainly focused on regimes characterized by high temperatures and low densities, for which quantummechanical effects have virtually no impact. However, recent technological advances (particularly on miniaturized semiconductor devices and nanoscale objects) have made it possible to envisage practical applications of plasma physics where the quantum nature of the par...
